Job Description:

Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with Part 61 and 141, FAA regulations, Airmen's Information Manual, advisory circulars, airport operations, and TSTC policies and procedures. Schedule students, maintain records, and ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by each student in a timely manner. Certified Flight Instructors report to the Chief Pilot.

Essential Functions

  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
  • Perform those flight instructor duties authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulations in accordance with the approved Training Course Outlines for assigned courses.
  • Regularly schedule each assigned student to ensure timely course completion, including completion of required paperwork and record keeping, and immediately inform supervisor of any delays in training or unsatisfactory progress.
  • Attend administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings and any other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure all students understand and practice all aspects of TSTC's Aviation Safety Program.
  • Monitor the maintenance condition of the training aircraft, and inform program maintenance personnel of any questionable items.
  • File incident reports as necessary to report any observed safety violations, or situations that may affect the safety of flight.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • AAS in Aircraft Pilot Training (preferred).
  • Satisfactory performance and completion of a CFI course of instruction.
  • Ability to manage multiple students, projects and tasks.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional techniques in the classroom and in flight.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgment at all times.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
  • Must embrace a culture of aviation safety and professionalism.
  • Ability to leverage technology to increase efficient operations.
  • Must be eligible to operate a state vehicle.
  • FAA Certificated Flight Instructor, Airplane Single Engine Land; Preference given to Instrument Instructor, Multi-Engine Instructor. (Must obtain a CFI-Instrument certificate within four months of employment).
  • Must hold a Class II FAA Medical Certificate and renew it every 12 calendar months since the last medical exam.
  • The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from manuals and the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the hangar/airport and is required to operate aircraft in both hot and cold weather. The associate will also be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to perform preflight inspections.
  • The associate must occasionally lift, carry or move items or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
